New Look

Hoisted the big fish box off the deck today and cleared some hydraulic lines. The deck is clear and the sheer looks terrific.

I visited the Jacob Pike yesterday in Rockport. Very exciting, interesting piece of history! At least two people I talked to so far remember it very well. Great work,

Fish box will become the centerpiece of an exhibit that dicusses the herring fishery in particular and industrualized fishing in general.

The Pike had a fish box for almost her whole career. The first one went on somehwhere in the 50s when the technique of pumping out a seine rather than dipping was developed.

This particular box was the problem. After the Pike was sold to Conners in the 90s the steel masts that she now has replaced the wooden ones and other cost cutting measures were taken. The box that she had for almost 2 decades when
the Holmes's ran her was removed and this one put on, one that seems to have been salvaged from another seiner as it did not fit in between the hatches in the notches that had been set up for the box. Conners also increased the diameter of the hoses from 6 to 8 inch rebuilt the starboard rail in maple and other interesting woods.
